A Television Show with Multi Cultural Perspective

Dear Friends:

The Iranian community is now an established and proud one in the Greater Washington area. During the past 28 years, first generation Iranian immigrants have overcome many obstacles while rearing the next generation of educated professionals to enjoy and contribute to a free society and appreciate their own rich heritage.

As you know, television is one of the most powerful and influential sources of communication in this country. The media is the most effective means of outreach, education and global understanding.

As an Iranian, I am proud to serve my community by applying my time and financial resources for the past 14 years to provide a media voice covering the issues of interest to the Iranians. For the past five years, I have utilized Fairfax Public Access cable television, a nonprofit government facility, to air “Outlook” in Farsi and later, post September 11th, debuted “Accent,” a half an hour weekly talk show in English on Channel 30 and 10, Cox Cable in Fairfax County.

“Accent” is a non-profit organization with multiple missions for bringing the community together through cultural education and information. While Accent focuses on younger Iranians- American generation and their contributions to the community, it also serves as a forum for positive cross cultural dialogue and an informative program for the American awareness and understanding of our rich heritage in a time of heightened political concern.

As of July 2005, Accent is airing on MHz networks covering the Washington Metro area with over 3 million viewers. I am proud to announce that Accent will go National soon.

However, as with any other public endeavor, our livelihoods and growth depend on support from each other. I have supplemented the weekly shows and volunteered my services as producer and host. But my financial resources are limited.

Now I am inviting you, as dedicated community members, to become a charter contributor to the “Accent” productions. In turn, your business/organization will receive on-air credit and recognition as a supporter of both the program and the Iranian- American community at large.

"Accent is part of a broader vision for a new Iranian television station, independent and solvent that will broadcast in the U.S. and Iran. The station would be dedicated to presenting other substantive professional programs that both Iranians and Americans will watch regularly. That long-term goal requires uniting our business and community leaders who understand and appreciate the power of the media.

This is a sensitive time in history so we need to keep respectful, educational programming about Iranian- Americans on the air.
